Caroline Thomas Barnhart is the Director of the Behavioral Health Service Line at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health. She is leading the effort to integrate behavioral health across the continuum of care, improving care delivery for patients with mental health and substance use disorders.
 
She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who earned her Master's degree in Clinical Social Work from Bryn Mawr College and her Bachelor's degree in Social Work from Millersville University. She completed a Certificiate in Integrated Behavioral Health and Primary Care through the University of Michigan.

James Hawthorne III, MD is an assistant professor of psychiatry of the University of Kentucky College of Medicine in Lexington, Kentucky. Currently, he is the Associate Program Director for the Psychiatry Residency Program and the Program Director for the Addiction Medicine Fellowship.

Dr. Hawthorne received his medical degree and completed a residency at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, Lexington. His interests include addiction treatment, mood disorders, as well as resident and medical student education.

1. Identify patients whose MDD is not diagnosed or whose MDD is not being adequately treated in the primary care setting.
2. Create a comprehensive plan to work with patients in managing their MDD.
3. Evaluate specific patient cases to determine when mental health consult is necessary.
4. Design a collaborative plan to work with specialists in managing patients with complicated or difficult-to-treat MDD.
5. Integrate measurement-based tools available in the EHR into the management of patients with MDD.
